Child Support Laws in Idaho

The Idaho Child Support Guidelines are used to determine the type and amount of child support that one parent pays to the other. These guidelines take into account a wide range of factors and assist the court in calculating a final amount.

The guidelines take into account the following factors, and more:

• The age of the child
• The amount needed for the child’s healthcare
• The number of children who need child support
• The combined monthly parental gross income

The child’s monthly obligations are divided between the parents based on the parents’ combined gross income and the other mentioned factors to determine what amount will be paid to assist in raising the children. Regardless of the choices that parents may make regarding custody and support, the court will rely on the guidelines to determine what is best for the child. The court may also order temporary child support in certain cases where one parent needs to pay for their child in an emergency situation.

Child Support Obligations in Idaho

Idaho’s Guidelines Income includes the gross income of both parents and, if applicable, fringe benefits and/or potential income. Once a judge determines which parent will be ordered to pay child support, they will set the basic child support obligation upon the Guidelines Income of both parents, according to the rates below (rounded off to the nearest dollar). • 14% of the next $10,000 of combined Guidelines Income: $117/month, $1,400/year
• 13% of the next $10,000 of combined Guidelines Income: $108/month, $1,300/year

• 26% of the first $10,000 of combined Guidelines Income: $217/month, $2,600/year
• 25% of the next $10,000 of combined Guidelines Income: $208/month, $2,500/year
